What is Diwali? Diwali is a five-day festival which begins this year on Sunday, October 27. Also known as the festival of lights, is it celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains. The main meaning behind the celebration is the victory of good over evil and of light over darkness. Homes are lit by candles and colourful lights, and fireworks displays are held in celebration. Families also gather to eat feasts and share gifts.
